Lou Clark, PhD, MFA, has been named Executive Director of M Simulation, effective May 18, 2020. This role provides leadership in the overall strategy and operations to advance and support health professional simulation at the University of Minnesota.
In this position, she will collaborate with academic deans across the health science schools and University programs to optimize interprofessional training opportunities; integrate emerging technologies and simulation pedagogical developments into faculty development and health science curricula; work with key stakeholders in the area of educational assessment; and advance the University of Minnesota M Simulation center as a premier simulation resource for the health care workforce across Minnesota, the region, and the United States.
Dr. Clark has worked as a simulation educator since 2007. She previously served as assistant dean of clinical skills education and innovation and assistant professor of medical education at Texas Christian University & University of North Texas Health Sciences Center School of Medicine; deputy director of clinical simulation & learning and assistant professor of medicine and nursing at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Bethesda; standardized patient (SP) program coordinator at the University of Arizona College of Medicine; and curriculum development coordinator and SP training and development specialist at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.
Since 2013, Dr. Clark has served as a health care simulation education and research consultant. In these roles she coached health care trainees and providers in honing patient-centered clinical communication skills, created, developed and implemented educational simulation activities for health care trainees with clinicians, and conducted focused research on simulation innovations and activities related to health communication.
She earned her PhD in Communication from Arizona State University and her MFA from the University of New Mexico, and her masters and bachelors from Manhattanville College.
