Carolyn Porta receives DAISY Nurse Leader Award in Forensic Nursing

The Academy of Forensic Nursing (AFN) awarded Professor Carolyn Porta, PhD, MPH, RN, SANE-A, FAAN, FNAP, the 2025 DAISY Nurse Leader Award in Forensic Nursing – Forensic Nursing Scholar. Porta was recognized for her efforts to mentor other forensic nurses, to elevate forensic nursing’s visibility in the community, and to advance the science of trauma care.

"Daisy awards originated from a grateful family member looking to recognize amazing nurses. It is such a fabulous feeling to be recognized for my commitment to nursing excellence in our research and our care for those who experience violence," says Porta.

Porta is the principal investigator for Restoring Survivors with an Excellent SANE Workforce. Her current scholarship focuses on the science of trauma-informed practice, leadership, and organizations, and system-level strategies to strengthen the health care workforce and mitigate threats to their wellbeing. She has extensive experience in clinical service, team science, mixed methods clinical trials, interprofessional clinical training, and strategic and operational leadership of large-scale research and workforce development initiatives.
