For more than 25 years, Mini Medical School has reflected the very best of the University of Minnesota’s public mission—bringing world-class health research and clinical expertise into meaningful conversation with our communities. What began as an effort to make complex science accessible has grown into a dynamic, statewide learning experience that welcomes participants from high school students to retirees, all united by a shared curiosity about health and discovery.
What makes this program truly special is its reciprocity. Mini Medical School is not simply about sharing knowledge outward—it is about listening, learning, and growing together. Our faculty and learners gain as much as they give, informed by the lived experiences, questions, and perspectives of community participants across Minnesota and beyond. This exchange strengthens our work, ensuring it remains relevant, responsive, and grounded in the needs of the people we serve.
I invite our health sciences faculty, staff, and learners to join this spring’s Mini Medical School series, The Hidden World Within: The Gut Microbiome. Together, we will explore the rapidly evolving science shaping our understanding of health—while continuing to build the bridges that connect our University with the broader community.
Your participation—whether as a learner, educator, or ambassador—helps sustain this remarkable tradition of engagement. I hope you will be part of it.
