Mini Medical School isn’t actually mini, and it isn’t medical school. It’s a 23-year-old community outreach and education program that features some of our most fascinating faculty in the health sciences sharing their expertise on timely health topics. Since it went virtual in 2020, attendance has skyrocketed.
Designed to appeal to staff, students, faculty, and the community, the series is open to everyone and free!
A recent poll of past attendees showed that the overwhelming majority of them want updates on COVID-19, information on geriatrics and aging, and more knowledge of community health.
We invite you to join our upcoming Mini Medical School: Evolving with the Pandemic (March 30, April 6 & 13), which will explore the latest on COVID-19, variants, and boosters; the impact of the pandemic on rural communities and geriatric populations; and resilience and reimagination in a time of burnout. Attend all three live sessions and receive a digital certificate of completion.

Advancing Interprofessional Education & Training
National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education Granted Joint Accreditation with Commendation
The National Center was awarded Joint Accreditation with Commendation as a provider of continuing education for the interprofessional team by the governing bodies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, and the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Accreditation Program. The National Center received a six-year reaccreditation because of its demonstration of exemplary performance and commitment to developing and implementing student and patient-engaged and evidence-based programming.
Apply for the Itasca Ecohealth IPE Experience
The Itasca Ecohealth IPE Experience: Exploring Sustainability through Collaboration is an intensive, fun weekend-long collaborative learning retreat for health sciences students, situated in a Minnesota state park to foster appreciation for ecohealth principles and geopolitical considerations in health. Applications are due April 1.
OACA Interprofessional Highlight: UMN Morris Challenge
Adey Fentaw, BA, Janette Romero Saenz, BA, from the School of Public Health, and Aisha Waseem, BS, from the College of Pharmacy, are working with UMN Morris Challenge to help garner data, community interest, expertise, and delivery approaches to engage populations in active change. The team is working to conceptualize and launch interprofessional community health initiatives in west central Minnesota and are collaborating with key leaders as they begin the IRB process

Student-Run HOPE Clinic Reopens
The student-run HOPE (Health of People Everywhere) Clinic in Duluth recently reopened after closing last fall due to the COVID surge. Located within the Churches United in Ministry (CHUM) Center, the clinic provides free acute care to underserved populations, especially those experiencing homelessness residing at the CHUM Center.
Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility Creates Innovative, Online Refugee Health Screening Training
Since 2012, the University has partnered with the United Nations International Organization for Migration to build the organization’s capacity to perform health screenings and assessments for U.S.-bound refugees. This partnership, led by CGHSR, has focused on its mission to advance health worldwide through collaborative partnerships, sustainable programs and academic excellence.

Research Ethics Module Now Available to UMN Researchers as Part of Research Ethics Week
The Research Ethics module is designed to help research professionals learn and review regulations and best practices for biomedical and behavioral science research ethics. You can complete the online module at your own pace and refer back to lessons and resources as needed. The full course is approximately an hour long.
