Rapid advances in health informatics, computational health sciences, artificial intelligence, and translational science are transforming biomedical research, education, and healthcare delivery. At the same time, learning health systems—which bring together evidence generation, implementation science, informatics, and continuous improvement—are emerging as a powerful model for advancing patient and community health.

Shaping the future of responsible, data-driven, and human-centered health innovation

Established in 2026, DAIHLea Office of Health Innovation advances interdisciplinary collaboration and drives innovation in AI, informatics, data-enabled health and biomedicine, and excellence in learning health system sciences.

Housed within the Office of Academic Clinical Affairs, DAIHLea provides a coordinated, interdisciplinary approach to responsible biomedical and health innovation, education, and real-world impact.

Advancing interdisciplinary collaboration

The work of DAIHLea aligns with the University of Minnesota’s AI Hub, which unites efforts across the University and disciplines in advancing responsible, human-centered artificial intelligence research, education, and public engagement. This alignment further strengthens synergies across University efforts and reinforces our shared commitment to ensuring that AI technologies are developed and deployed in ways that meaningfully benefit biomedicine and human health.

Together, DAIHLea and the AI Hub accelerate discovery, translation, and implementation of AI-enabled solutions that improve health and society.

Leadership

Dr. Genevieve Melton-Meaux
Interim Associate Vice President for Health Innovation

Dr. Melton-Meaux is an internationally recognized leader in biomedical informatics, clinical AI, and learning health systems. She serves as Deputy Director of the University’s AI Hub and director of the Center for Learning Health System Sciences. She is a McKnight Presidential Endowed Professor of Surgery, senior associate dean for health informatics and data science, and a core faculty member in the Institute for Health Informatics. She has served as president of both the American College of Medical Informatics and the American Medical Informatics Association.
