BOLD Ideas Grants Announcement

Author
VP Jakub Tolar, MD, PhD

I wanted to share with you the exciting – and somewhat surprising – response to our inaugural BOLD Ideas Grant funding opportunity.

There were 31 applications submitted by teams representing a wide array of disciplines, including all health sciences schools plus the Law School, Design, Carlson School of Management, Center for Spirituality and Healing, Extension, Center for Urban and Regional Affairs, Weisman, Science and Engineering, Duluth’s Dept. of Economics, Geography and Philosophy, and Rochester’s Art Department.

Our reviewers were impressed with the innovative approaches demonstrated – and the clear indication of existing relationships leveraged on behalf of the “Wicked Problems” that inhibit health and wellbeing in our communities.

We funded six applications in this initial phase – and are looking forward to the same level of interest – and competitiveness – in the second phase of funding later this year.

The initial BOLD Ideas awards are:

  • Minnesota Rural Practice Based Network to Monitor and Respond to Health Needs in Rural Minnesota
Institute of Health Informatics, Public Health, Duluth Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy
