OACA Interprofessional Internship Highlight: M Health Fairview Team

Emily Moccio, MSN, DNP ‘23, from the School of Nursing, and Karen Chen, BS, MPH ‘22, from the School of Public Health, are working to initiate a process for the creation of a repository for the housing of all student clinical quality improvement (QI) and process improvement projects within M Health Fairview. The first step towards meeting this goal has been to gain a preliminary understanding of the current processes in place for the management of QI projects within different specialties. A need was identified within the Doctor of Nurse Practice QI project management, which is where the focus landed for an initial pilot program.

“Participation in this project helped highlight the fact that thoughtful and sustainable organizational change does not happen overnight,” said Moccio. “System-wide changes require involvement and consideration of many stakeholders. Implementation of change must incorporate many details and be very thoughtful so that it meets the needs of all.”

Moccio added, “Working with students, stakeholders, leaders, and experts from different professional backgrounds has been the best part of this experience.”
